AZ Press: Rattlesnakes are biting in Tucson

Mar 15, 2005 07:30 PM

KVOA (Tucson, Arizona) 14 March 05 Rattlesnakes are biting in Tucson (Elizabeth Vall)
Rattlesnakes are biting in Tucson
Be aware! Rattlesnake season has begun. Already, two Tucsonans were bitten Friday.
A 49-year-old woman was bit on the Northeast side on her foot and a 17-year-old boy on the Southwest side was trimming weeds, when a rattlesnake bit him on the hand.
Both were immediately rushed to a local hospital, and are expected to recover just fine.
This perfect weather in March and April, is perfect for snakes to come out and stay out, which means everyone needs to watch out.
Herpatologist Hugh McCrystal says, "rattlesnake invenimations are very painful. Usually there's some burning, discoloration. Sometimes there's not. Sometimes you can be invenomated with no symptoms, which is why it's important to call 911 right away, no matter what."
Only professionals should handle snakes. Even dead ones can be dangerous. Reflex bites with envenomation can occur several hours after death.

Your famous now Hugh but why is it that the tucsonians always seem to get bit so often? Or is it that the press is just a little slow up here in phoenix and they miss all the local snake bites? Maybe the snakes just don't like the taste of phoenicians. Either way I guess the season in underway.

The snakes around Tucson are much more interesting than those dumb snakes around Phoenix. As a result, we can't keep our hands off of them.

Unfortunately, they are also meaner!!!

You can, but you're not old enough for it to be true.

The TV crew spelled herpetologist "herpatologist" on the footer. They need the editor.

didn't realize it was TV until after I posted, thought it was a newspaper article or something...

They spelled herpetologist "herpatolgist" and envenomation "invenimation" and "envenomation", LOL...

It's amazing that the media, TV or newspaper, gets so much wrong. One would think grammar and spelling would be a priority for them?? Too funny. Cheers, Hugh
