How much room for trio?

Vicarus Mar 16, 2005 06:01 AM

Hi!

I have a terrarium measuring 160cm*60cm (5ft,3inch*2ft / width*deep), can I house there a trio of chuckwallas (1male, 2females)?

I'm still in two minds of getting a blue tongued skink or chuckwallas, I already have a pair of uromastyxs.

Bigger would be better but that will do. Just make sure you have a lot of verticle habitat-rock work with crevices for hide spot as high as you can go and at least 2 basking spots. Forget the blue tongues they are boring. Chucks are lot more active.

PHEve Mar 16, 2005 09:25 AM

I LOVE my Chucks all 3 of them, they have Funny personalities, alot of ATTITUDE, one in particular follows me around when out, and the other male, is learning from him, and is really tame also. I would not trade these guys for anything

But I Love my Big female Merauke Blue Tongue also.
For different reasons than the chucks of course. Can't compare, they are so different.

But Chiquita, is very cool, friendly, and super inquisitive, watching everything I do when in the reptile room. She will crawl all over ya, and THOSE tongues are something, LOL

They are more slinky and secretive than Chucks, kind of SNEAK around , hehhehe.

Chucks are JUST IN YOUR FACE kind of lizards, take me as you see me, hehehhe with SLOP all over me from eatting, LOL they are funny!

Take me as I am slop all over my face. Hehe. Hey Eve I was out in your neck of the woods over the weekend. I went with a turtle geek buddy of mine to Flemington, NJ to help load a 52 foot semi with BIG fish tanks and fiberglass troughs. I never worked so hard in my life, hehe. We loaded about 120 180 gallon and 220 gallon aquariums and all the equipment to go with them. I swear those tanks are about 400lbs each. What a job. Anyway we started Sat morning at about 8 and finished Sunday afternoon at about 2. Then drove back to MI but not before getting stuck in a 3 hour traffic jam on the Penn. turnpike as soon as we got on it. What a nightmare. Ended up getting home at 4:30 Monday morning. That part of NJ is beautiful. I guess it is in the foothills of the Appalacians-very nice.

Hehe, thanks for pointing these out for me!

I think I try to find chucks somewhere, here in Finland it
isn't too easy... I think I haveto go to Sweden to get a pair
or trio, or even one! :D As far as I know, there are no chucks
at all here in Finland. BTS wouldn't be as hard to find, but I
think I've made my decision...

Sometimes Bert Langerwerf will take chucks to Europe for me and I have a friend from Switzerland that usually visits for the Breeder's expo in Daytona, FL. You never know maybe they can get some to you someday. Can you get animals from the UK?
You are neighbors to what used to be Kerelia?? I love some of the folk music from Finland and Kerelia. Varttina and Hootenanny Trio - Halitulijallaa. Very good stuff. Tom

Vicarus Mar 17, 2005 11:47 AM

Hmm, Kerelia o_O I don't know any place called Kerelia. Are you sure you don't mean Karjala?
I don't believe I can get animals from UK, but I think that if I don't find them from Sweden, I will find them from Germany.
Oh yes, Varttina, nice music.
Personally I like finnish metal music (like Ajattara, Behexen, Barathrum, Nightwish, etc.).

Cheers!

weekend, LOL Kinda FISHY if ya ask me, Never been to that part of NJ.

I'm more in the Pine Barrons neck of the woods. Although I have never hiked there, Not yet, keep asking My hubby to go with me. Maybe this year.

Anyway hope ya got to keep one of those big tanks , or something worth your while, heheheheh !

I could use a few tanks that size for lizards or big fish, I keep Oscars, silver dollares, green terrors, and dempsys, and a cool but nasty Midas, in the red devel family. Sucker is so funny I put my hand in to clean up and he charges.

But I get a kick out of him, and kinda play with him.

How are the Chucks?

I dang near forgot it!!!!! I would have to say chucks are much better to have in a showplace than Bluetongues. They are like most wifes-------- like Tom Said--Boring!!

Spring is popping here but cold today. Chucks have been moving but so far I have not been out there taking pics. Will do that soon. I MUST find a breeding Redtail female soon-- these mutts are killing me!!!

There was a MORION ( Gunnila) that posted here a year or so ago from Sweden. I fall in instant love with Swedish gals but live to get over it!!! I think she traded her chucks to someone else in the Scandinavia area but cannot remember what country they were in. Maybe I'll look through the archives.

Later

Eve!!!! Yep-- i knew I was in deep doo for that but what they hey!! You better start kicking right now if you want to draw blood-- my wife will be kickin' too so you might get the left overs!! I lost one adult male DI to cold & moist conditions this early spring. He came out on Valentines Day ( yes I did remember it) when it hit 80 F but moist soil & cool temps for weeks after got him. He was not smart enough to stay under once he popped out but it cooled down. I also found my dominant male ( males are dominant you know) Yarrow in lifeless form this afternoon. He was 5 yrs old & seemed to slow down mucho over the winter. Sorry 'bout that John--- you Yarrow died & mine are alive. Such is life when you are the BK Spooner!

Later

with grins & hopes for a fine spring!!!!

I hope we can do this again in May...I'm really looking forward to it. My Yarrow died...these Texas lizards don't seem to know how to adjust to those cold swings. Maybe I should wait til June before I put mine out in case we get some cold snaps. I have had all my lizards brumating since the second week of November. I plan on waking them up when I get back from Florida on the 29th. I have a female yellowhead that is gettin' skinny on me. Glad to see you posting again David.

BIG DONNIE BRASC Mar 17, 2005 09:37 AM

Hey there Love Birds!!!! Yep--- I have to go to Arizona in May & then back again at Christmas ( Kids getting married just before New Years. I am taking 2 weeks in May to mess around in Organ Pipe area ( he said Org-- )& backroads from Tucson south to the mountains near the Open Borders of the Neighboring Country of Mexico. I just migght pack some heat with me too. So you killed the little Yarrow girl !@#$%^&??. We will camp in Catalina State Park much of the time. I hope to at least see more critters than before & I bet all the rain will bring out a bumper crop of everything. The next couple years will really benefit from this rain too when all the babies are breeding size.

Gotta go & get readfy to do more camping, guitar picking & getting grunk this weekend about 100 miles out of town-------- no driving for a few days----- just crawling!!

No Spoons for the Chopper!!

PHEve Mar 17, 2005 09:15 AM

Yeah which ever, YOU are FULL of it David, hhahahah !

Sorry about your male chuck, I thought you posted a pic of that dominent male a month ago? Shame, (guess males are NOT so dominant , especially in Texas) LOL

Bet that ole one-eyed female is still getting around though(females are UNIQUE, stronger mentally ) Learn to DEAL with problems, such as MALES ) LOL

And POOR Yarrow, what are you doing to those lizards, maybe they would do better if the WIFE looked after them, hahahahhahahahahaha,

Hey, your alright buddy, nice to hear your DOO, again

Thats her !!!! I would recognize that Left side Bearded Dragon Logo anywhere!! Is she as cool & as much fun in person as she seems ? I think she got rid of her chucks a while back.

You never know who's gonna pop up so better say nice things!!!

We both belong to a bearded dragon group that meets in Daytona once a year for the National Reptile Breader's Expo. She is very sweet unless you get in the way of her shopping. Without the benefit of a hurricane to keep attendance down, it was impossible to keep up with her in a show that size. A woman on a mission!
The gang met up in the evenings to compare the day's haul, over a few beers, of course. We did manage to get away for dinner on the pier and a ride to Orlando.
Definitely cool and fun to be with. Just couldn't talk her into that bungie chair thingy, though. :0
That was '03. Prety sure she had her chcks back then.
