Wheezing?

justinchilton Mar 16, 2005 09:21 AM

My ball seems to have been wheezing last night. Hes about 3months old, 21", I did some reading, and it doesnt sound like the symptoms of an infection, but it just started last night. Its not on every breath, more like every 5-6 breaths. Any opinions or suggestions would be great! Thanks.

I wouls suggest taking him to the vet anyway, just to be on the safe side. My adult male was wheezing a little bit and I too didn't think it was an RI from what I had read, but it did turn out to be the very early stages of one and I got the meds. for him and he recovered VERY quickly since it was caught so early..

I tend to agree with CircusFan. It could be that s/he had her head in the waterbowl and what you hear is the sound of water from its cavities. However, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I had an animal treated for RI and the vet prescribed Baytril and Amakacin(sp?) via injections to the lower upper third muscule area near the dorsal, alternating sides per injection. He's doing well now but it could have been worse if I ignored the symptoms and did nothing.

In the meantime, increase the heat in the cage and try to increase the relative humidity as well. Clean the water dish/cage more frequently and keep the snake away from other animals in your collection. If it refuses to take a meal, do not offer the meal to any other snakes in your collection. These are preventative measures "just in case" your animal does in fact have have RI.

Hope this helps and good luck to you.

What are his environmental settings? Temps during the day and night are what? Is it humid or dry where he is?
