Home-made pond

MikeST Mar 16, 2005 12:52 PM

Anyone ever put their snappers in a home-made pond?
My backyard is pretty small, and I'm just going over options.
My guys are much more bouyant when in the water, so they really don't do a lot with their claws like on land.
Don't know if they'd puncture a liner or not.
I have a friend who says I should make them out of wood.
For right now, they'll just be for Koi, but if it really warms up,. I'd like the option to put snappers in their for the summer.

one thing you can consider when planing your pond, it to go with the preformed plastic ponds instead of a liner. A snapper isnt going to be able to poke through it and are easy to install. they have them in all sizes so im sure you can find one that you find attractive and would fit the area you have in your yard.

I haven't kept Snappy in a pond made with a liner, but in the summer she lives in a pond made with one of those preformed thingies. In the winter she lives in a kiddie pool.

No problems withs claws.

I've used cattle troughs before. You can make a nice deck pond out of one. I had a 100gallon one that I bought for 50 bucks at a ranch supply store.
