Snake Not Eating! HELP

Doug89 Mar 16, 2005 03:18 PM

Hey guys, my leu. texas rat wont eat. She is eating a pinky mouse a week and shes about 18' long (6 months old). Last week she ate just fine today she only snapped at the mouse's leg and chewed it off. I tried tempting her by tapping it to her nose but she either shies away from it or gets it around the middle instead of at one end. I placed it in there with her and she picked it up like a dog and carried around her feeding tank then she dropped it. Its back in with her again now. Thanks!

PS-If you havent figured it out they are f/t fuzzies (2 grams)

It may be that the snake is getting ready to shed. They sometimes go off food even before their eyes cloud up. Don't panic. Offer the snake food next week. One week off food is nothing for a snake.

yea dont worry. however i got a couple questions for you.

when you were offering the food, were you with your hand or with a pair of tongs? If it was with your hand think of a big giant hitting you in the head over and over with a cheeseburger! Hungry? lol....

I would toss that one that you've defrosted, get another thaw it out tonight when the lights are out and leave it overnight. most of the time they eat better in the evening/night.

I was using forcep type things while feeding her. I could tell she was hungry she just couldnt coordinate her strikes to catch the mouse on the head or tail. I left it in with her for about 30 minutes and she finally swallowed it down. Thanks guys!
