White Sided Speck, freshly shed and fed pic

Nokturnel Tom Mar 16, 2005 03:42 PM

Some days you snap 100 pics and one or two look decent. Last night I pulled this snakes rubbermaid out of the rack and snapped off a bunch of pics and most came out pretty damn good. She just ate 2 snall mice, she is normally nice n lean. My 03 Specks are finally starting to get some size on them. Check her out Tom Stevens

Damn Tom that is the nicest white sided I've seen and I remember your pics from before.
Can't wait until I see more of that quality on the market.
Congrats,
Uncloudy

Damn Tom!
That is the only whitesided speck I have EVER seen..
Or got to handle for that matter...
Great snake, especially in person.
Great representative shot too.......

Also, is this a simple recessive gene?

And what do you think an albino white-sided would look like since there are a lot of albino specks out there.

Any other recessive genes in specks?

Thanks

There are lavender albinos as well as amelanistics and the whitesides.

I used to have albino specks in the 90's, but I have never seen a pic of a lavender speck. Anyone got a pic???

Thanks

Where did the gene pool originate for that trait? I havent seen those before. Pretty awesome snake!
What similarities does the genetic history of that trait in kings have with the ratsnakes?

I am in awe.

Nokturnel Tom Mar 17, 2005 09:25 PM

The orginal was a wild caught and after well over a decade of being in someones collection Terry Vadeventer got it on breeding loan. He got this project off the ground over the past few years and I got the first group he offered and they're 03s. I am very greatful to own them and I hope it brings some well deserved attention to Speckled Kings in general. The rest of my group are hets, and they're very nice looking in their own right. I am going to work on getting some presentable pics of them. I am used to seeing Brooksi grow up overnight, this is not the case with these. They did not respond well to my heavy feedings so I gave up pushing them for fast growth a long time ago. Now they're starting to show some size on them. I hope to produce my own in 06. I will work on more pics. I love the White Sided Brooksi, Bulls and Rat Snakes but these really are exceptional. Keep your fingers crossed for me in 06. Thanks Tom Stevens
