Handling question

chubbyfrogmom Mar 16, 2005 06:13 PM

I've had my girl(?) for about three months now and I try to hold her everyday so she can get used to being handled. I don't want to stress her out every time I have to do a full cleaning. I've noticed she freaks out if I try to hold her but if I let her climb up to my shoulder she buries in my hair and is content for as long as I am willing to leave her there. Is this normal? Will she calm down about being handled as she gets older? I'm new to geckos so I'm not sure what to expect.

Baby and Juvenile Leos are almost always very skittish. Yours will calm down eventually. I noticed from the photo that it lost its tail at some point. Did he/she drop it before you got it? When my geckos were small, I only grabbed them for about 5-10 minutes every other day. They calmed down once they grew to about 6 inches long. Be very patient, yours will come through.

Thanks for the help. I thought she had lost her tail but the guy at the pet store said thats just the way they look. I guess he thought I wouldn't buy her if I knew she had been mishandled. I would have got her either way, missing tail and all she's still my "baby".
Here's what she looks like now.
