kassina maculata or red legged jumper

dravencat May 16, 2003 01:34 PM

Hello,
couple months ago bought a cute little bugger no bigger than
the first digit of my thumb, pet store called it a tiger legged
monkey frog, after much serching on the "net" found that it is
a kassina maculata also called a red legged kassina, hes from
africa, very cool coppery brown with spots. I love this little
guy. Ive been keeping him with my whites tree frogs and they
seem to get along just fine, same care, same moisture and so on.
Question- does anyone have or know where I find care sheets on
this particular guy? Hes singing and active and seems happy but
I want to make sure Im doing all I can to make him stay with me
as long as possible. Thanks for whatever you can give me.

hey there -- i just bought a "tiger leg monkey" tree frog from a rep show in new england. mine is green with orange tiger stipes on its legs, very similar under markings as a "red stripe legged" running frog. the tree frogs are more arboreal and the running frogs are more likely to hide under the substrate.

I have five tiger or oragen-legged monkey frogs (P. hypochondrialis. As for you rK. maculata, you should seperate it from your white's. Chances are your tank is too small for all of the frogs and mixing species isn't good ither. K. maculata comes from areas in Africa, while white's are from australia and indonesia. Their temperature, humidity, decor, etc. are all different. What size of tank are they in? they shoule be seperated ASAP. Then, maybe you can locate a female K. maculata.

I have them in a 55 gallon tank, I do want to find another one,
really want to get another one but since I havnt been able to
find any real info on them, not sure if what I have is a male
or female, been assuming its male. Ive only found one pet store
so far that has them that I trust. I was trying to make it to
the reptile and amphibian show in baltimore this weekend but
staying in Ocean City for the Rumble on the Beach car show.
Keeping my eye out for other shows cloes to home.

This litle guy dosnt have any stripes at all, the red on his legs
is pretty solid, Ive seen pics of the tiger legs and its not the
same type of frog. The tiger legs are beautiful tho, just havnt
seen any around here yet.
