Gecko Laid tonight

gauchobry Mar 16, 2005 06:55 PM

Hey Ya'll

It is not my intent to overly anthropomorphize my geckos but is there any motherly instinct that should be carried out before I remove the eggs after laying. Also, what is the best way to quickley fatten up a gecko that has just laid. Her tail is looking a bit slimmer than I like.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Bryan

I have one female who seems to be alot motherly than the other. Once the eggs are laid you can generally just take them from the tank without any problems, however my youngest female makes a point of having 2 be satisfied with burying the eggs before you can remove them from the tank - if i take them out before she has completed this task she will digg around her tank for DAYS and make a big mess :0D so i just let her do her job then remove them. If you want to fatten her up in a jiffy try offering her a pinky mouse - if she takes one she may not eat for a day or so after - also wax worms are high in fat so you can try that also just remember that they are ADDICTIVE and your little girl my not wanna eat plain old crickets or mealworms once she has had a few She will naturally begin to put on weight before her next lay so you dont have to worry - just remember to keep plenty of calcium in there with her though!
