Rack Housing Question.

wertsa Mar 16, 2005 07:38 PM

I am thinking about purchasing a few 100% het for pied snakes. The problem is, I don’t have room for everything I want to buy and I don’t have room for another rack. I built a rack system that has 4 66 Qt sterlite containers and flexwatt for heating. First off, I have heard that large containers are bad for small balls because they get scared. If I put plenty of hides in the container and it is placed in a very low traffic area, will this situation be ok for the snake (assuming temp and humidity are all fine)? Also, could I house 2 baby females of similar size in one container with no problems (assuming there are multiple hides and both females are healthy)? Could two males be housed together? Can two females be raised together in a container this size? I would appreciate any advice/comments you are willing to give. Thanks.

If space is a concern, why 66 quart tubs? I have 9 lb girls in 41 quart tubs.

Never keep two snakes together. I'd measure the height of the 66 quart tubs and try and find a same height smaller tub and then simply put several tubs into one level of your larger rack. I use sterilite tubs and the 12 quart, 28 quart and 41 quarts all have equall heights and are thus interchangable. For example 41 quart tubs 3 wide is the same as 6 12 quart tubs side by side. If you like send me an email and I'll take pictures of my rack this weekend and email them to you (wife is out of town with the camera).

I keep 2 small females together in a 30 gal high tank (I'm talking small - 200-300 grams each). Just dont feed them in the same tank.
