What exactly is brumating/brumation

cause i have nooooooooo idea i dont even think it is a real word because its not on dictionary.com

Brumation is basically hybernation, comes from the latin (?) word brume meaning winter solstice (when most animals hybernate, could it be a coincidence?). It's not in the dictionary? Wow, Websters has mugals but not brumation?!
