WOW! I think she is just gorgeous! I love how her dark coloring makes a sharp contrast with her bright orange tail. She is really something to be proud of! How old is she? She looks pretty big!

through the melanin. Very nice. Cant say ive seen one like that before.
Being that she's so dark, I wouldn't expect her to be very highly appreciated but that tail is a definite opinion swayer. Thanks. I'll let her know other people think she's nice too.
Sorry mate, but have never seen pure hogs look like that. Look more like a cross with another Bci (mainland).

I completely disagree. I think she is pure as pure gets. Maybe you're just used to seeing so many crosses it's hard to ID a completely pure one.
I don't think our Danish friend has seen too many crosses, just too many line-bred to be pretty Hogs.
I think it is most doubtlessly a "pure" Hog, and I would like to see more like her.

Crosses are not generally accepted in Denmark or Europe for that matter, so actually I’ve never seen crossed in any Danish collections. Also we have quite a few bloodlines here in Scandinavia and many responsible breeders who cross the lines.
Many of the first Hogs in the hobby came to Scandinavia and Denmark is most probably the country with the highest concentration of hogs in the world.
So I wouldn’t specify that being the problem.
I have never ever seen one like this one! Of course they can be quite dark, speckled and less “pretty”. Also, the orange on the tail goes much higher than anyone I’ve ever seen, both “live” and on the web.
But if anyone can show me pictures of wild caught specimens looking like this boa, I would appreciate it highly.

Hi Ryan
I have to agree with Rix.
I've never seen a pure Hog looking like this one.
Do you have any documentation to support you claim of this beeing a pure Hog?
I have animals from a documentet pure line (WC back in the eighties) and they don't look anything near this animal.

Hoggs are highly variable. You guys should know that. Again I ask, what other BCI would/could have a tail that orange? If she's not a Hogg, what is she? Cause when I look at her, I could just swear that's a Hogg Island Boa...Hog Island Boa...Isle de los Cochinos Boidae or whatever the hell, take your pick. She's gotta be more than 6 years old and I would say possibly double that or even more, I don't know. But she was definitely born in a time before morphs and crossing and all that. There's no reason to question her background. She's a Hogg. It seems pretty obvious to me.

Is this the hogg from Dave Derick that has the nasty kink? It is hard to tell by the pics, but the coloring is the same.Great color to her, but MAN was that an ugly kink.

and that kink can seem ugly at times but it's really not that bad. She just got done eating, as she does everytime food is offered and she's totally healthy so the kink obviosuly isn't that big of a deal. I'm actually in the process of selling her though because my male ghost needs some more time before he's ready and I could use the space. I love Hoggs and I'm sure I'll end up with more later, but for now she might as well go somewhere she can be bred now. Just took some new pics yesterday and wondered what other people might think of a super dark hogg.
after reading that post above about that poor male with the spinal problem after breeding, it made me think maybe that could have been the cause of her problem too? Guess it's a possibility?
That is the most awesome Hog I have seen in a long time. I don't need them to be speckle-free pastel-toned "girly" snakes. She is kick-a$$.

There is another pic of her above in her light phase. Might as well post it here too, I guess. I have no idea what happened to her neck but you can feel her spine is curved. Ironically, I had another nice pure adult female with the same problem about 2 years ago. It's made me wonder if it's just a conicidence or what. I have really gotten her healthy and put weight on her in the 4 months I've had her. She's really turning into a great animal. I wish for her sake she had the full benefit of having a spine though.
