European Emys orbicularis, ill?

yagotter Mar 17, 2005 01:10 AM

Hello all,
I have a large female adult European pond turtle that has been in captivity for >10 years. In the last few days she seems to have lost coordination in her hind right leg, and her front legs seem very jittery (weak?) when she walks on land. She is breathing fine (no rattling, gaping, bubbles, or funny noises), and has good reaction time when I touch her limbs, but has stopped eating. I feel no eggs when I palpate (and she normally becomes gravid in May). Please, any suggestions-?

Mike

Coordination problems are sometimes due to neurological problems induced by long-term vitamin defficiencies, especially B6 and B12. Is the turtle eating a diet high in fresh or frozen fish products? Only a suggestion.
