i guess im full of questions

raisnok Mar 17, 2005 07:34 AM

im wondering something, the pet shops here where i am dont seem to carry frozen pinkies as regular stock.
the store i got my snake only carries them when they have the snakes which is kind of stupid in my opinion, but they will order them for me, they were telling me they could order pinkies, and mice and also t-rex snake steaks sauages.

what are the snake steaks, and are they just processed snake food? does any one here use them ? or is it not recommended?

one pet shop mentioned that i could breed my own mice and freeze the pinkies my self, but im not sure on that idea, im sure their is a way about doing it a proper way.

Check out www.bigcheeserodents.com - they vacuum seal their product so you can order a bunch at one time and keep them in your freezer and they'll last at least 2 years unopened. If they order the 6 packs for you thats gonna cost about $12, you can get a pack of 50 for $12.50 (plus shipping). However they charge acual shiping with a $3 or $5 box fee (for the dry ice and such.) Personally this is the best deal i've found online.

I don't like the snake sausages that much just because they're designed for one thing - power feeding. true you can cut them apart, and that's what i'd reccomend... but the initial purpose was to power feed... plus they're very expensive. I'd just stick with ordering some mice from big cheese.

Like cartoon said Id just order some frozen mice in bulk if you have the space. If you can, try and split the order with others as the shipping will cost more than the mice. But, Its worth it the long run because you dont have to depend on the pet store or pay 1.99 for a .25 pink each time. Good luck.

Actually I believe "snake steaks" were designed for the European market. There was a time when it was unlawful to feed mice to snakes in some European countries (which is why many Euros keep and breed U.S. garter and water snakes). Not all snakes accept "snake steaks." I have used RodentPro and have been very happy with their prices and service.
