It has too many rings of black on the tail to be a hypo imo.. If the rings were fewer toward the front I would be inclined to think hypo, but I don't notice any tail saddles without black.

I know what you mean Randy.. I used to feel the same way. I actually had a hypo that didn't look as nice as this animal from a HUGE name breeder, and another HUGE name breeder told me basically what you replied to the gentleman.

...but as we have progressed, i've seen some pretty dark, ugly hypos, besides the better ones out there, and I think this one is a screamer when compared to some of those dark, ugly ones I refer to.

Then I looked back after reading your post and almost agreed, but then looked at the tail area.. it's washed out like a pastel, but not grey or plain white like most pastels. It is solid peach/pink, same as the rest of the body, like many true hypos. This is probably what convinces me the most for this one.

I think when breeding codom to wildtype, taking a codom offspring and breeding that back out to a wildtype over and over again (which is what is done by most since most can't afford the high end hypos/salmons or other morphs) diminishes the animals appearance, drastically reducing color/cleanliness, or better yet, increasing its melanin.

I know several people out there have borderline animals like this one and I thought it would be cool to maybe get a contest going to see if it proves out.

Not sure on prizes... babies would be good, but probably not fair to have the owner pay for the prizes.. maybe the loser buys the winner a pretty baby.. I don't know.

Anyway, just thought this was an interesting discussion/difference in opinions.

Hope all is well..
Take care, Joe Rollo

his base color is white or like that of a common..
I think the others base color is totally salmon/hypo..

What made me decide on Pastel was the very dark splash along the sides which screams pastel, and also that one has a tail quite similar to one of my old Davey Pastels. Of course now I'm gonna have to go and stare at the pic some more lol..

This is the one the above animal reminds me of a bit (the pic is when he is over a year old)

him in his dark ugly colors

And the closest to dead on accurate I ever took (in light mode)

Those Davey Pastels are a cut above the rest...

See how so many pastels have different characteristics?

Some display more of the reduced melanin around the body,
some mostly around the tail,
some washed out, including color,
some, like DP's, with more yellow,
some more pink or orange..

Imagine combining these to make the ultimate pastel!

Make the *perfect* boa !

HMM HUU HUUAAA HHUUAAHHH HUAAHHHH!!!

(my attempts at an evil laugh)

later guys.. Joe
