Need help, Masticophis lateralis feeding

aliceinwl Mar 17, 2005 11:23 PM

I've got a Masticophis lateralis slightly over 12". Any tips on getting it to take pinkis?

I've tried washing them, scenting with Hyla, garter snake, and alligator lizard, and braining them, I've also used forcepts to make the pinki look like it was running (the pinkies were live except for the brained one). I gave it a lizard last week and it grabbed it immediately, but I'd really like to get it onto pinkies. For a Masicophis, it is very docile, but that also means that trying to goad it into taking a strike at a pinki is a losing battle.

Lizard tail in dead pinkie mouth might work. Or starve the snake and throw in 3-4 scented pinks, or put the pinks on a rock or up high like a lizard sits and that often stirs a whip snake.
