Is this a granite?

sugarfox03 Mar 18, 2005 12:06 PM

Can you guys please tell me if this boy is a granite? I got him early Dec. at a reptile show, he couldnt keep food down, he wasnt gaining any weight. I got him treated (took 3 treatments!) now he's clean and I cant get him to stop eating. He's now over 400 grams (he was 280 when I got him) and doing great! He's filled out beautifully. Anyway, I have seen some people selling granites on here and they kinda look like my Balthazar (or just Zar). Can you guys tell me if he's a granite? Thanks!!

Doesn't look like it to me. Here's mine, although he has all the "granite" features, I don't think he's a "true granite".

Ok...thanks everyone! I didnt think so, but seeing what other people are selling as granites, made me start to wonder. He's a great snake though, very sweet! Thanks again!

...the head markings on this specimen are not 'classic' granite;
lack of light markings in the parietal area (the top/back part of the head) and lack of break/irregularity of dark colors at the head/neck junction suggest otherwise...these are key ingredients of a classic granite...

the body patterning do suggest a granite lineage...

really need some input from the guys in florida who've seen a lot of them...

Scott,

I will call it anything you like as long as you pay me $300 for each "granite"

Personally, I go by RDR's definition.
