Cage for baby tegu

sunset714 Mar 18, 2005 12:15 PM

This is my next question, I am planning to build a cage in the next week or so. But I am getting some conflicting answers about cages. If I get a baby tegu is it ok to already have him in the cage he will be staying in when he gets bigger? Or should I keep him in a smaller cage until he outgrows it then move him to the bigger cage?

Thanks

Some smaller tegus may stress if placed into a large enclosure. I started my young tegus in a 55 gallon tank before building an enclosure. Not all small tegus will have this issue. Keep in mind, Bert at Agama International houses his young tegus outside in a huge community enclosure.

If your tegu stresses or acts odd after a day or two in the large enclosure, merely use some stiff cardboard and a staple gun to create a temporary partition inside the enclosure. That will resolve the issue.

I hope that helps. If I am not here to post replies (I sometimes get busy) feel free to PM me or visit my website and contact me with your questions.
