Mite killing questions

The_asshat Jul 09, 2003 01:59 AM

Hey all just have some more questions. My snake has mites and the shop I got her at gave me Hartz flea and tick powder. They use it all the time and never have a problem with it. They said to remove the water bowl, spread the stuff around the cage and on her, and then a day or two later clean the cage out and replace the substrate. My questions are with water procedure. If I keep the bowl out will this seriously hurt my snake for the day or two I would? If I were to put the bowl back inside could the snake while taking a bath toxic the water up or would it probably be okay?

Anyways, thanks for your time and answers. I'm sure I'll have more questions

If the snake is otherwise hydrated a couple days without the dish will be fine.
I personally would just get a can of Provent-a-Mite and be done with it. Follow the directions and that is that. With your method I think you will be retreating and wasting a lot of time and worry.

I agree with Sonya after all if it had mites from the store you bought it from that would indicate that their method of treatment isn't working.

The reason for the mites at the store is that they are always introducing different reptiles into the place. They take in injured and abandoned reptiles and help with others that people bring in. I'd guess it'd be pretty near impossible to keep the place mitefree without having way more restrictions on bringing in reptiles.

Anyways, thanks for the answer sonya.

Yeah, I agree about the Provent-a-Mite. You don't even have to change the substrate or anything. Just take out the water, spray it in, let it dry and make sure the vapors are out, and you're done.

Yeah, but if that is the case why are they not isolating, treating for mites as they come in, and quarantining enough. Bugs carry disease animal to animal. So obviously their methods, however well intended, aren't working.
