feeding....

notabigdeal Mar 18, 2005 08:54 PM

i have two ball pythons. they weigh 428 gms and 374 gms. they are siblings that i bought as "sisters". my questions are these. can weight alone be used to determine sex? these snakes have always eaten the same amount of food. they are both healthy and active. second question, what should they be eating now, and how often? they are currently eating large rat pups when available here, and full size mice when rat pups are not available. they eat every 5 or 6 days. sorry for this being so long.

thanks

No, the weight of a snake can not determine sex......if you don't "believe" the accuracy of the sex.....get the snakes probed or popped by a reptile vet or local herper that knows how to perform either method properly. These are the only sure ways to determine sex...(and then again..mistakes are made, so you may seek two "opinions"
Feeding.......the current regimen sounds fine....there's no need to "up" the size as long as you notice a distingushing bulge in their mid section. Offer a couple items at a time for awhile......work them up to a single larger item later.
