Coral Albino GENETIC INHERETENCE

srsnakes Mar 18, 2005 09:37 PM

Okay so as interested as i am in the coral albino and pastel lines i have yet to see any really genetic inheritance patterns. The most that I have heard is that it is from multiple genes that control the color production and intensity of the animals. If this is the best that it is and its just pardon the term but "good breeding" practices. As in breeding high pastel animals to other high pastel animals ect....How true is this and is this "gene" just luck of the draw or are there really established lines that are within a reason going to get better with time and more orange and pink in color with age or is it all a crap shot? any comments and feed back on the actual inheritance of this trait??????

Sincerely,
Rose Hipskind

PS... I just want to say i really REALLY like the coral line and would like to get into the project BUT i am worried about the lack of inheritance and wondering if i should purchase pairs in order to assure production of these beautiful animals... any comments are welcomed.

Corals and pastels are whats called a polygenic trait. They are colors that are inherited from the parents, because of their look. Just like getting blonde hair because your grandmother had it. It is definitly reproducable, but you must have the genes to make the quality animals. It's not a recessive or dominant trait, but the product of people breeding the best of the best, and definitly worth picking up.
