I'm just wondering if the metal dome part of hte light is really nessisary? i'm making him a wooden cage, and it seems i could utilize the ceiling space much better just putting a few bulbs in sockets attached inside the ceiling, but wanted to know if anyone else managed to get good temps doing this. It's going to be wooden on 5 sides, lifting doors on top, i'll drill venting holes in the sides as needed, and a plexi front.
and a side question, effecting how tall i build this, do niles tend to climb much? currently he just burrows, and due to that i intend to only leave about 2 ft above ground, but if he stands a decent chance of useing climbing space i'll provide it. i'm not too worried about the size of the cage, since wood isnt too pricey, and the way i want to put this together, it wont be too much of a task to take it down to move it.

i intend to leave a little bi tof climbing space, but wasnt sure if i should leave him ALOT, or just enough to occasionally perch on. lil bugger gave me a scare last night, didnt come out for his food, which he ALWAYS does, and i couldnt find him when i tore apart the cage a bit.... plus one of hte secured corners looked unsecured. then this morning there he is sitting int he basking spot. i have no clue how i didnt find him in there ';' just makes me want to build this bigger, better (and much more secure) cage faster, haha.
