egg shaped masses passed through cloaca

rebajoe Mar 19, 2005 02:14 AM

On 2 different occasions I have seen my adult ball python pass different sized egg shaped masses along with a lot of fecal fluid and material...I have had her for three weeks and got her from the local pet store who got her from a lady who couldn't keep her because of her lease. I have the feeling she is wild caught because I have found a tick on her and she has several scars along her backbone. She is very humble and meek and I just love her to death. The first time she passed the masses was when I administered a dosage of Flagyl, prescribed by my vet for Trichamonads, and the 2nd time was when I slipped her into warm bath (90 degrees) Both times, she seemed like she was straining extensively and trying to get away from me...poor thing, I felt so sorry for her...can you imagine being out in the wild and then captured by who knows who and passing through all the different hands until she ended up in my hands... I am very sensitive to this in my dealings with her as I wish to cause her as little stress as possible...She never ate for the petstore (four weeks) or for the lady that brought her in (don't know how long she had her) and she hasn't eaten for me...should I try to feed her or just wait until she starts looking for food like my Rosys? Thanks for your help!!!

Are the masses whitish or yellow in color? They may just be Urates. Ball pythons do not urinate like we do; they pass urates out as solid masses. If this is what they are, there's no problem.
How long have you had her? I usually let them settle in for over a week, and then offer food (a large mouse for a 2 foot snake.)

Hey thanks Ginevive, I appreciate your comments...they're kinda between white and beige...quite porous. I hope they are nothing harmful...I have had her for 2 weeks, since 05 Mar so maybe I should just mosey on up to PetLovers and pick her up a mouse...or more...how many do you think she needs? ... she's 42 inches long and weighs 1226 grams. (If I did the conversion right...the vet weighed her in at 2.7 lbs.)A real sweetheart! Thanks for your input! Rj

Probably urates, I would try a small rat or several mice for that size BP. Probably like 3 if you decide on mice. Craig
