Taking Ig to the beach..... good?

callidryas Mar 19, 2005 11:08 AM

I'm going away for a week to the beach in a 1:30 hour trip and I was thinking to bring my Ig. He's not a full grown yet, but he's well fed and active, so I tought the warm humid air from the beach could do him good. The mayor question I have is that if sea water would be too bad for him or I can let him swim in it?

Any other suggestions? He's very calm, likes to be petted altough I only had him for less than 3 months and the leash doesn't seem to bother him whenever I take him to the yard to have sunbaths. What do you think??

In my opinion, it is not a good idea to take any pet reptile to the beach. Too many people take their boas, pythons, monitors, and iguanas out in public for attention. Salt water will dehydrate them. Crowds can stress them. No chance to thermoregulate if stuck in the hot sun. If you're taking it for attention and don't care about your animal, I can't stop you. If you care about it's health and well being, leave it at home.

HI
in response to your post , i dont think it would be a bad idea at all to take your iggy to the beach , make sure you bring plenty of fresh water and an umbrella for shade

we took one of our girls to the beach when she was littler, and she loved it

i would completly disregard the person who replied to you saying the beach is a bad place,,,after all most feral colonies of iggs come from near the beach or HOT desert areas,,,

Thank u so much for hepling me out ^^ I indeed took my ig to the beach and we had a wonderful time together, scratches, poop and all >_O.

Actually I live in Mexico and this beach in particular that I use to go has plenty of Igs near there altough they have lighter colors and some white stripes. Mine is an Ecuator fellow, so he's more like the orange kind.

He ate like a dog and I really think the trip softened him. He's fastly turning from the tame iguana to a socialized one ^^ yay!

First, thanx for the response, it made me re-think of taking my ig to the beach but....

1.-I don't like attention, I refuse to be identified in crowds
2.- Good thing u told me about salt water, I only allowed him to swim on an nearby river
3.-I'm not a dufus, I'd obviously give my ig a chance to hide from the sun if I let him out in the open
4.- He's happier than ever and even started kissing me in the face so I have no regrets about this iguana-trip ^^
