WESTERN MORNING NEWS (Devon, UK) 17 March 05 Children Find Snake In Bag
A group of youngsters had a nasty surprise after discovering a 3ft-long snake abandoned in a plastic bag. The children contacted the RSPCA after seeing the bag moving as they sat on a public bench at Illogan in Cornwall.
The orange adult corn snake, which is not venomous, would have been "condemned to a slow, certain death" according to the animal charity.
Felicity Cross, from the RSPCA, who picked up the snake from Paynters Lane End on Sunday, said the owner had probably dumped it after losing interest.
She said: "Clearly it did not get there by accident, and we can only speculate that the heartless owners got fed up of looking after it and decided to abandon it."
The snake is being looked after by an RSPCA staff member until a permanent home can be found for it with an owner experienced in looking after exotic pets. Anyone with information about the owner of this snake is urged to contact the RSPCA on 08705 555 999.
