I am planning a trip to the Pine Barrens. Can anyone give me advice as to what's the best month for Pine snakes, King snakes? Any specific areas I should avoid? Basically any experiences and ideas.

Well, if your worried about which places to avoid because of fish & game officials then you need not go into the woods. If you are caught with anything in your posession they will come down on you hard. If your looking to take pictures then not much can be said. Just make sure it's a camera in your possession and not a bag or container of some kind. With that said, from May on is good.

Be careful,Ive been harassed taking pics in the barrens.The enforcment there is straight out of a page from fidel castros guide to law enforcement.Theressome real bottomdwellers riding around in unmarked vehicles down there,too.....

I agree with the others whatever you do in New Jersey will be closely watched. Mainly because New Jersey is so densely populated and its hard to get away from people. I like hiking in an area called menatico ponds, it is in Millville, NJ. However, be prepared to see fish and game guys becaue there back there alot. Also if you go into the woods in Jersey during early spring and summer watch out for deer ticks, because there all over the place
