Help Please, Andean Milksnake Loose in Home!

dschnelle73 Mar 19, 2005 02:52 PM

I have had my Andean loose for about 24 hours. I have looked everywhere I can possibly think of, under clothes, in the couches, under the refrigerator, etc. Still no luck. I have been told to place a water bowl near a heating pad with a small cardboard box nearby. I also have been told to put the cage on the floor left open with food in it for the Andean. I have also heard of making traps with Duct Tape, But I know that Duct Tape will not come off of a snake without removing scales even with vegetable oil. Does anyone else have any real intelligent ideas? The intelligent ideas will be great and the others with get a good laugh.

I would suggest setting up a snake trap. It is pretty simple. Use an appropriate size soda bottle, for a small snake use a 16-20 oz bottle, for a larger snake use a 2 litre bottle. Cut the top off the bottle right where it is the largest. Then insert the top of the bottle backwards into the bottom of the bottle. What you are doing is making a fancy funnel type trap. Put the trap that you have baited with a frozen/thawed mouse of the appropriate size in the house where you think they may be on the floor. You can put one of those heat pads under it. Leave it overnight. In the morning, hopefully you will come out to a sleeping snake in the bottle.

You might want to make a few of these to use in several rooms. Don't forget the hallway and bathrooms.

You can put flour in the sides of the walls where you think where your snake is and in the morning hopefully you will see tracks where the snake went thruw, remember leave the flour there for at least 3-4 days just to make sure. Hope This Helps You Find Your Snake, Scott Glover

A good way to find lost snakes is to flip the lights on in the room or rooms near where he escaped in the middle of the night and you have a decent chance of catching him on the move when hes not hiding since milksnakes are nocturnal that is when he will likely be out crawling around.
