Zoomed Powersun vs T-Rex Active UV Heat... Any experience with either?

ryjspahr Mar 19, 2005 05:29 PM

Hey I'm looking for an alternative to the long tube bulbs of UVA/UVB light for my box turtles and thought I should go with one of these two... anybody have any experience with either, preference?

I know at my local zoo (Woodland Park Zoo here in Seattle) they use the T-Rex Active UV Heat bulbs... but they are like $20 more than the Zoomed Powersun... just looking for some input...

Thanks in advance!
Ryan

I've tried the Powersun and have had a horrible time. If used both 100 and 160 watt versions of the powersun, and neither fits wellinto any typical lamp fixture. You have to buy the zoo med stand if you want your bulb to point directly downwards into the cage. If you have a custom build with the fixture inside this wouldn't be an issue. I am now on my 3rd Powersun, the first two lasted 2 months and then died. Apparently this is a common occurance. I took all procautions to ensure the life of my powersun bulbs, had a computer fan facing the bulb, appropriate watt fixture, etc. The idea seems nice, but I have had such a horrible time that I've decided to go back to the ol' reptisun 5.0's. Perhaps the other company's mercury vapor is more reliable and fits into most lamps. All i know is that I've had a horrible time with the powersuns and I am only one of many who posts on kingsnake that has had these issues. Good luck in making your decision.
