Breeding season, or something to be more concerned about?

lizzard2112 Jul 09, 2003 08:21 AM

I have a Sudan Plated lizard that I rescued almost a year ago. I have never had a problem with his eating, but in the last couple of weeks I have noticed some strange behavior. He stopped eating crickets, started to regurg the superworms, but would always take a pinkie. I gave him a pinkie a couple of days ago, and he threw it up later that night. So he won't take crickets, superworms or now pinkies.

He looks and acts fine when I have him out. He is still shedding all the time and aside from not eating seems perfectly fine....

I would bring him to my vet if he knew something about them, but he doesn't, so I am asking for your help. Thanks!

It doesn't sound too good if the Plated is not eating; mine eats often. I would suggest to check your lizard's caging temperatures. Any chances of substrate impaction? If possible, try to get a fecal sample & have the vet send it to a lab. There is a possibility of either/or: bacterial, protozoal or parasite infestation.
Goodluck & please post with an update.

I'm with Lizardman. Breeding season will not cause regurgitation. There is something else going on here, most likely parasitical.

Well, just for an update. He has been eating and pooping like normal for the last few days. Maybe he just didn't feel good......I have spoken with my vet, and I think he will still be going in for a visit. It can't hurt! Thanks for your responses! Have a great day!
