Although I am far more familiar with the salamanders of the eastern United States than those of the Pacific Coast, I occasionally trek westward in search of caudatans.
These three ensatinas were among the examples found on one trip.
I still need photos of yellow-eyed ensatinas so will be trying for them within the next year or so.

This very pale individual was found, along with normally colored examples, beneath debris in Yosemite NP.

Nice. You know that ground color actually changes. I have some from the Greenhorns that go from super pale to chocolate. One of these days I need to take the time to track the variables and see what exactly causes it. I suspect it's a temp thing.

IMO, this is one of the most spectacular of North America's salamanders.

Although this example was found well within the stated range of the yellow-blotched ensatina, it had certain intergrade characteristics.
