Gonyosoma, E prasina and frenata

gonyosoma Mar 20, 2005 09:48 AM

Hi folks,

Just got myself a pair of Gonyosoma (wanted them since I was a kid) and wondered if anyone has any hints on how to get them breeding. I've heard humidity might be involved, but how exactly?

Also, anyone know how easy E.prasina / frenata are to keep and breed?

Beautiful group of snakes thats for sure,
Look forward to hearing from you....!

Awesome, glad to hear it.

Me too, guess I'm not a kid anymore (see signature).

The only time I have caught mine copulating was when I was able to drop the temperatures at night. First time I witnessed this it was 63*.

I also sprayed the cage down the night before so the evaporation would provide a bit of cooling.

I understand they are much, much easier than G. oxycephala.

Well, I've never "witnessed" copulation, however my original female laid 5 duds last year, which was the first year I had a male for her. I've got a trio now and am interested to see how this is going to turn out. Mine seemed to breed around the same time as my beauties which are kept on a photocycle, were light/temperate cycles are determined by the actual daylight periods. In other words, when it's day, the lights are on, when it's night, the lights are off. Winter produces shorter "daylight" periods, and thus longer times without heat lamps and variably cooler temps. With the return of spring/summer days, they are warmer for longer periods of time. It seems that all of my asians that don't require an actual cooling can be triggered this way.

Now that I think about it. Or I should say that's what I did. With a designated snake room with it's own heat source I'll have to modify things.

But I pretty much adjusted my timers to turn everything off when the sun went down and vice versa. That includes all heat sources.

And like I said, I only got copulation during cold nights or periods of time when it was cold. Wish I still had all my notes on this stuff.
