I heard some bad things about these substrates. Anyone know if this is true and what kind of problems they cause?

Impaction if ingested. The idea that they are digestable is an exaggeration. In tiny quantities for the size of the animal they may pass. I wouldn't bet on it. The possibility is good, especially with babies, that if they eat some it will mess them up. I know my vet cringes at the idea of any animal being fed on sand. He has had too many die with a gut full of cemented sand.

Last I checked my snakes weren't living in the wild.
Dirt is not sand. Sand in nature is not the same as the sand in the bag.
You want to feed your snakes on a sand based on the claims by the people making and SELLING the sand go ahead. If you want to treat your captive no better than those in the wild....knock yourself out. But I base my choices on the health of my animals. Part of that is based on the opinion of my vets. My vets cringe when they learn an animal has been kept and fed on a particulate substrate, especially sand. I don't go there.

Thanks for all the info on Bone aid and calcium sand. I'm sure I will no longer be using these in any, shape, form or matter! Thanks again............
