Feeding lobster roaches

Dave A. Mar 20, 2005 11:49 AM

I recently got a small (250) order of lobster roaches. I plan on using them to feed my cresteds and the leo really seems to love them.

Anyways, feeding them to my cresteds is somewhat problematic as lobster roaches are pretty quick moving, shy, and once they've found a good hiding spot, tend to stay there.

So, my question is how should I go about feeding them. A little info on lobster roaches first though. They do not fly, the can climb just about anything, including glass, and they move really quickly when they want too.

Dropping them in the cage works only if the crested is on the bottom of the tank and I drop it about 1 inch from their snout. This isnt too effective because cresteds dont tend to stick around on the ground.

So, a bowl wont work, they just climb right out, using tweezers tends to scare the geckos off, and dropping them in the tank pretty much just allows them to run and hide whereever they see fit.

Any ideas here would be appreciated.

Vitamin dust may help if you are bowl feeding. It sticks to the roaches feet and may keep them down. Try various smooth plastic tupperware containers until you find one that dusted roaches cant climb. It does work!! Once the crested get used to the roaches they really seem to like them.
