enclosure size

Kylesa Mar 20, 2005 12:26 PM

I searched the forum, but the search engine isn't that great, it's too broad. Anyway, I've been looking at care sheets, and I've been seeing different suggestions on enclosure size. What do you all use?

Deer Fern Farms says to have a 4' x 2' x 18" enclosure for two uromastyx. Now, I'm only going to have one, so, what would be a good size? Could I house one uromastyx in a 40 breeder?

sorry, I forgot to mention I'll be getting a Mali Uromastyx... so you know how big he/she would get.

Some people will say a 40 gallon breeder is ok for an adult Mali, but I disagree. Since they are one of the larger species, I wouldn't want to house an adult in anything smaller than a 75 gallon (4ft x 1.5ft). A 40 gallon would do, though, for a smaller species adult if you couldn't get anything larger. They're very active and like to run around a lot - the more space you can give them, the better!
