Looking for herping spots in Napa, Ca

Hello everyone,

My family is taking a much needed vacation to Napa, California. Although much of our time will be taken up doing touristy stuff, my wife is a champ and agreed to spend a day "in the field". I noticed a number of state parks in the area but would sure like to hear from those who live there if there are any good areas to look around....this is stricly a "have fun herping outing"....no collecting, no nothing; just enjoying the scenery. Of course, it looks like the weather is pretty cool around there so the prospects may not be too good. Thanks in advace,

Stebbins Cold Canyon Preserve is a good place to go, although it's a bit east of Napa on Hwy 128. If you look at a map of the area, it's at the base of Monticello Dam, at the corners of Yolo and Solano Counties. Some great foothill herps there, including foothill yellow-legged frogs, California newts, night snakes, and misc. other herps. Do a google search for Stebbins Cold Canyon to find out more info. Also, it is a research preserve, so, of course, there's no collecting whatsoever-
Have fun-
Eric
