Scarlet kingsnake question

Ritas Mar 20, 2005 02:59 PM

Are scarlet kingsnakes more secretive than lets say a CA kingsnake, Do you see them much or mostly hide more so than most of the bigger kings?
Thanks

It varies from specimen to specimen.

I have an 04 cali king that comes out alot, but usually only to "go to the bathroom". He'll also roam around his enclosure for hours until I throw him a few mice.

Some scarlet kings will roam out, some are quite shy and stay hiding. Some are jumpy when held, some are calm and can be held for long periods of time.

I had a 11" scarlet king that was more calm out in the open than my 18" cali king.

Thanks I guess no actual answer to this than. I am considering one . Would you know the type that stays with white bands and doesnt get yellow bands?

HerperHelmz Mar 20, 2005 09:33 PM

Most SK from Florida get the yellow bands around 10 inches in length. I'm pretty sure it's the North Carolina SK that keep the white bands throughout adulthood.

if you get a SK snake make sure it eat pinkies and try to get a CB snake good luck

Ritas Mar 21, 2005 03:00 PM

Oh yes pinkies I will make sure its eating those dont want to have to get lizards or wean it over.
The kind of scarlet I want I may not be able to find CB as I am looking for the type with white bands and the ones I see for sale seem to be from Florida parents but I agree CB way better if I can find type I want.

Hey, one thing I want to add in...

The locale SK that you are looking for, the NC specimens, are less likely to switch over to rodents. The FL are must easier to switch to rodents, or basically start off on rodents.
