Nesting behavior

jmartin104 Mar 20, 2005 03:30 PM

I have always kept my reptiles on newspaper. So when they lay eggs, it's on newspaper. Recently, I switched to aspen bedding. I have a few females that are due to lay in about 35 days. For those using a substrate other than newspaper, do you notice nesting behavior before laying eggs and if so, how soon, before laying, do they usually start? Do any of your BPs lay eggs without nesting behavior?

Jay,

We noticed last year that when the female was preparing to lay she started making a sort of nest in the cypress mulch. She moved it all out in a circle and stayed in the center like a nest and that is where she laid her eggs and they stayed until I removed them.

I always put all my females on aspen after ovulation and they all begin building their nests Immediately. Yes... everyone of them. I've never had one not nest.
