might be a hybinio

rtdunham Mar 20, 2005 04:41 PM

here's a male i held back last year. he's much paler than most tangerine albinos so I'm wondering if that might be the clue that he's hybino. but really won't know til i test him (breed him x hypos & see if all the babies are hypos).

I have a local friend that bought two pale pairs from you a couple years back. Hes planning on doing kind of a two part test breeding. Hes going to breed the pales together to see if they all come out pale and the males to hypos to see if they all come out hypo. I think If the breeding to the hypos produces all hypos that should prove out the males. If the pale X pale produce all pale it won't prove out the females, but I would fell pretty comfortable assuming they are hybinos also. I'm sure were going to see a definite hybino at some point this year. Thinking the paler look might be that distinguishing look of a hybino over albino.

remember an albino can show ANY and ALL of the variation (in all but the black rings!) of a normal honduran--in other words, they can be tangerines, tricolors, white narrow rings, or cream, yellow, orange, gold, etc. narrow rings; the "wide" colored rings can be orange or red or in between; the rings can vary in width just as much as on a "normal".

to answer your ques's specifically:
--we can't say what hybinos "should" be since we don't know how they'll differ from albinos. but a hybino could be tangerine OR tricolor, etc.
--tangerine albinos are -- like tangerine "normals" or wild types -- usually orangeish-red and orange (plus white, which sometimes turns yellow with age) but some tangerines are redder than others.
