female tokay died

fliptop Mar 20, 2005 07:59 PM

Not sure what happened, but when I got home this afternoon I found my female in the waterbowl upside down and drowned. This is the same female who I mentioned drank out of the water bowl, and the same one who laid the eggs.

She hadn't eaten the past two feedings, and I thought it might be because a shed was coming on, or she was going to lay again. She had excellent weight, and as of last night, her typical tokay temper.

As I just build a tank stand, was wondering if the polyurethane bothered her, or if the dust from the cat litter (also housed in the kitchen) could've bothered her. But the other two geckos are still doing fine. The waterbowl was large, large enough to hold her whole body. Too large?

This is extremely frustrating, and I hope the eggs she laid do indeed hatch. She was beautiful, a perfect match for my male. I do have her sister, who has been housed in a separate tank.

Ugh.

Hard to say why your girl died, but as far as the water bowl, I would change that anyway, to a shallow saucer type.

It's nice you have her pretty sister to carry on !
