Roccoco/ cane toad cage size

solfugid Mar 20, 2005 08:25 PM

How big a cage would a cane or roccoco toad need? I am going to get one some time in the future, and I want to know how big a cage one would need when it is an adult. Are they like pixie frogs, needing 40 or 50 gallon tanks? Or would a 20-30 gallon be ok for one adult? Thanks.

It depends on the size of the toad. A young marinus that's only three or four inches could comfortably be kept in a 20 or 30 gallon aquarium. A large adult, like the ones from Suriname that you see photographs of in the classifieds, will need a proportionately larger cage such as a 40 gallon breeder aquarium or large 50 gallon plastic storage container. Good luck,

I have an adult female Roccoco who's in a 50 gallon Rubbermaid that I purchased from Walmart for something like $14.00. She has a hide box, a soaking container and dirt to burrow in. I had to cut out the middle part of the lid and replace it with screen netting because she still could still jump out without it. The lid still fits snugly this way though. Sometimes, I'd see her sitting on the top corner edge before I put the lid/screen on, and I couldn't get over how she could balance herself like that.
