She drew blood!

Doug89 Mar 20, 2005 10:54 PM

Tonight while i was holding my leucistic texas rat (shes only about 6 months old 16-18" she bit me and actually made me bleed, lol! I didn;t even think her teeth were there. It didn't hurt at all i just thought it was funny. Hopefully this biting phase will pass, i dont wanna be bit when shes full grown! The wierd thing about it was that she bit me while i was holding her, which has never happened before. The only time she usually bites is when i go to pick her up, not while im holding her. She was slithering from hand to hand and when i went to pick her up ahe snapped her head backwards and caught me on my knuckle! I just thought i'd share this funny expierience with you guys!

Doug,
She's learning some new behaviors? Or, perhaps she was just hoping for a meal? It's good that you can find the humor in the situation.

Several years back my husband brought home a beautiful adult striped albino calking. As I was handling and admiring the "docile" creature, he suddenly did one of those backwards lunge things, and latched on to my neck!

Then, he refused to let go! Twenty minutes later, some tequila (for both the snake and me) and a credit card, he let go, but not before leaving me with a huge red mark that looked just like a hicky! The next day a couple people at work tried teasing me about the mark. When I told them how I got it, it was priceless to watch the smirks literally evaporate from their faces!

I theorize that he caught the movement of my dangly earring, and thought it was a food item. He ate 3 f/t jumbo adult mice that night, so he definately was hungry.

regards,
althea
