Different personalities in Leos?

gaparicio Mar 21, 2005 12:54 AM

I have had 0.2 Leos for about a year now and I am about to obtain some more from a breeder. I am interested in getting two more females to keep as pets. My only question is do you guys have an opinion of different types of leos being more tame?

For example, my patternless is very tame as opposed to my normal being a little timid and restless when you handle her. I am interested in an albino but I heard some of them have problems with their eyes (blindness or sensitivity). Is this true? Any feedback would be appreciated.

The only thing i have heard about personality differences in color morphs is that the blizzards tend to be kind of crazy. Other than that it really depends on the leo. As far as albino's, i have seen some that seem to be bothered by bright light and are less inclined to come out/eat during the day hours. To avoid this problem you can either heat the tank with just an UTH and no light bulb, or use a black or red light bulb, or feed after the lights are turned off. Having said this, some albino's are fine with any light...

I've had an albino male for almost a year now. I've never had any problems with his eyes or anything. It did how ever take me a while before I could hold him without him biting me. I also have a female that was very tame when I got her. My female leo is the only one out of all my reptiles that hasn't bit me. With any animal it takes time to build its trust. My male was perfectly healthy when I got him so it took a little longer than with my female because she'd been starved and the whole feeding her when she was hungry gained her trust. My male bit me the day I bought him but that didn't stop me from getting him so like I said just earn their trust and you'll be fine with whatever kind of leo you get.

Thank you all for the info. I have always liked albinos but was a little nervous about getting one with bad eyesight. I will purchase one and will work with her to try to tame her if she is a little skittish.
