They better not be doing what I think they're doing!

jimbo Mar 21, 2005 05:36 AM

I was just noticing that either my two males have lost a bit of weight, or my female hasn't stopped gaining weight. Haven't weighed them since before winter. First thing I said was, "She better not be pergnant!". No sooner do I mention it to my wife, when I see what you see below. I know some of you have posted pictures of your uros doing the "horizontal mambo" before, but I can't remember how contorted they were. I'm hopeing that these two are just playing piggy back. And before you say anything, I couldn't get to the side of the cage to look down behind them, the other cage is in the way. Any thoughts?

LOL Boy, they could be doing the typical uro pile that we see so often, or they could be doing the nasty. LOL The later would be way cool Jim!!!! You know how hard some of us have been working with the saharans and trying to captive breed successfully!!! That would be awesome. I have one adult male that is awesome and each time he looks at the sub-adult females (in another setup) he goes into his cassanova strut. I'll be getting an adult female shortly for him from Pam on here.

Good luck if they are breeding!!!!

Looks to me that there's just piggybacking going on - I would expect more twisting if something else was happening.

Here's the other shot I have of another angle. The female is pretty arched, too.

Yes, very true as in the pic, it depicts the normal pile on that uros represent. I agree that most lizards (beardies in particular) need to "readjust" to allow for their tails to get out of the way, so-to-speak. Uros definitely must have a side-ways aspect when breeding.

Take it easy Torey!

Yeah, I'd have to agree. It's just that the male in those pictures, has always been larger than the female and the other male. Now that they're starting to come out more, she is HUGE! I'll just have to keep a watchful eye, as I'm not ready set-up wise, for eggs...though, Easter is right around the corner (no, I wouldn't color them).
