the area were he saw it or though he saw it was high lands, pine woods, hardwoods, so the area could have one but i was thinking that they are so rare that it couldn't have been a pine snake.

OK lets try this again. Your original post says something about a black pine but the header says Fl pine. You mention a black racer as a possible animal that your friend saw. Why??? And as far as the area of where, we would need a state and a general region of that state. If it is Florida than where North South Central East West. It is a big state. If you are thinking Black pine then Fl is a few hundred miles away from them. So in other words be more generically specific if you don't want to give the name of the park. But for the record if most of the people who post on here wanted a location for Fl Pine hunting they would have the resorces to get very specific locale data.
As far as rareity I know of a guy in Central Fl that found three in his yard in a week last spring and another guy who does rescues that gets 2-3 a year in one neighborhood. At the same time I never saw a wild pine myself and I hunted 100X more than both guys combined. It is really being in the right place at the right time.

I have to agreee with the above poster, Fl. Pines in the right area are not that uncommon. But due to so much habitat degradation and human intrusion any large snake is at risk in Florida. Personally I have collected three from the Ocala area in three separate trips years ago. I found them, but over the years and during those trips when I have collectted florida, I have till yet to see a live corn. Fiqure that. Everyone else collectted corns like they were going out of style and I never saw one myself. But we did find the pines, several indigo and 5 blotched kings on those same three trips.
