My first clutch of eggs!

tazziesmommy Mar 21, 2005 11:17 AM

I'm so excited! After so much heartache over the years, I finally reached a point where I had the knowledge, time, money, space and energy to breed my beardies. Red layed her first clutch yesterday and there looks to be 19 good eggs, 1 that I'm not sure of and 5 that are collapsing and don't look good at all. She only mated one time 15 days ago. I wasn't expecting her to lay them so fast and have so many look good! Her sister Patchie mated once 18 days ago and she has a belly full of eggs but hasn't layed them yet. She has decided that she would rather lay them in her outside enclosure in real dirt instead of in her laying bin like she is supposed to. Hopefully, I can convince her otherwise. It will be really hard to dig them up if she buries them outside! I have all the bins and lights and stuff ready for the babies and I have 11 people who are waiting for a baby. Hopefully, I'll be able to part with them!

I moved to a new house and I am also going to be starting a rescue in memory of my Tazzie. I'm still in the research stages, but I've been doing it unofficially for awhile now and I have lots of room now, so I'm really excited. I'll have to wait until I'm done with the beardie babies though! I have a feeling that all my "free time" is spoken for for the next several months!

Congratulations on your beardeds laying eggs. Hopefully everything goes smoothly for you and that all the babies come out happy and healthy with real good personalities.

Also, was Tazzie a bearded or was Tazzie a different animal all together?

Tazzie was an exceptional beardie. He was really smart and handsome and the most lovable beardie I have ever encountered. Caring for - and loving - Tazzie helped me endure a life threatening illness. It sounds silly or melodramatic to some, but that sweet little lizard inspired me to keep fighting and I believe he is part of the reason I am relatively healthy and enjoying a complete remission right now. I don't like to talk about the details anymore, but to make a long story short, my Tazzie was killed by an incompetent vet when a simple procedure went very, very wrong (he punctured his colon doing an enema). I think that starting a rescue and helping other reptiles is a wonderful way to honor Tazzie's memory.

Thanks for the good wishes! I am so very, very excited. I keep peeking at the eggs to make sure they are really there! It's going to be a long couple of months waiting for them to hatch!

Thanks again,
Lisa

Thank you so much! This really is so exciting! I've been dancing around the house all day and calling everyone I know!

The house is pretty cool too. I came from an apartment so the extra room and huge, fenced in back yard is awesome. My beardies now have a fabulous enclousure outside where they can go when it is nice outside (and I live in AZ so there is a lot of nice beardie weather!) The beardies get all excited when they see me in the morning because they want to go outside. I take them out of their tanks and put them on the floor. They do this funny beardie run straight to the patio doors and scratch to go out just like a dog! It's so much fun watching them "play" and, when it's really nice, go swimming too!

Thanks again for the well wishes! I'll post some updates on the babies and the rescue!
