New baby leo

sugarfox03 Mar 21, 2005 12:57 PM

I got a 4 month old jungle morph leo. Starting this morning, he/she has been very aggressive! I know to leave them alone and let them calm down, I just wanted to know how long will he/she be stressed out like that? He/She was fine the last 2 days. Also, what is the best time of day to feed them? I did some research before getting one, but couldnt find this answer anywhere! Thanks in advance for your help!

i recomend leaving them be for at least a week, giving them plenty of time to settle down and de-stress minimizes the risk of parasites or other stress related conditions.

Its best to feed leo's at night, either right before or right after the lights go out. They are nocturnal, so by nature they hunt at night. Having said this, most leo's will eat at any time during the day!

Good luck!

You say that your leo was fine, then today became very stressed and aggresive? Do you also have cats in the house that might have been able to tap on the glass and stress out your leos? I had a leo that stopped eating for some reason and when I moved her to a higher rack, she started to slowly chill out and become normal again and eat. I later found out that my cat liked to tap on the rack when the leo moved towards the front of the drawer. The cat of course was intoduced to the water bottle on "Stream" mode.

I've had the best luck feeding my leos at night. Also, I always have a bowl of mealies in their enclosure to make sure that they have some food when they want.

Thanks so much guys for the info! I do have a cat, but she's not allowed near my reptiles as she killed one of my baby beardies last year (she's not allowed in my reptile room for any reason!) So the cat thing isnt it. I did put a new hidey in there for it, maybe it just wasnt sure what to do with the hidey log? I dont know, I know animals can get stressed out for any reason. I put my hand in the cage today to get the water bowl and clean & refill it, and it was fine (I hate calling the leo an 'it' but I dont know if its male or female yet! lol). I think he/she will be fine, I dont go near its tank, and I put up stuff all around it so it cant see out unless it wants to (there's areas thats not covered). Thanks again everyone!
