Shipping Label Regulations per Lacey Act

CJBianco Mar 21, 2005 02:42 PM

Can anyone tell me the EXACT specifications for proper labeling of shipped boxes as per the Lacey Act?

I've heard that species and quantity should be listed on an outside label. Does this mean that when shipping say...a Ball Python...that an outside label should read: REGIUS (Qty. 1)?

It couldn't be this simple. Therefore...does anyone know that EXACT specifications? Or better yet...does anyone have a photo available of a properly labeled shipping box?

Thanks In Advance,
Chris

THERE IS NO SIZE NOTHING HAS TO BE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOX
JUST FRAGILE AND PERISHABLE THATS IT

According to the source, all packages must list:

(A) Name/Address of shipper.
(B) Name/Address of receiver.
(C) Species scientific name.
(D) Quantity per species.
(E) Whether species is venomous/nonvenomous.

"Except as otherwise provided in this subpart, no person may import, export, or transport in interstate commerce any container or package containing any fish or wildlife (including shellfish and fishery products) unless he/she marks each container or package conspicuously on the outside with both the name and address of the shipper and consignee. An accurate and legible list of its contents by species scientific name and the number of each species and whether or not the listed species are venomous must accompany the entire shipment."

It is also illegal to label packages with FRAGILE/PERISHABLE only. This is viewed as an intentional and deliberate avoidance of the above requirements.

Just so you know...
