Herping spots in PA?

Apython4u Mar 21, 2005 06:07 PM

Anyone know any good herping spots in PA, NJ, DE, or MD. I've never reallyhad the chance to look for herps in the feild and I'd like to take a stab at it this spring. I'm mainly interested in looking for snakes. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

i have a creek and a pond near my house and if i see snakes i usually see them around or in there. I found a nice milk snake swimming around in my creek last year, it got away from me though. I have also seen water snakes swimming in the pond. Sometimes i'll see garter or ribbon snakes preying on fish around the creek. I'd say find a park or something with water and forest and chck it out.

PS-If you going to catch some make sure you know the laws and you have a valid fishing license Good Luck!

You could go to tyler state park.I have seen a milksnake.garters, waters, softshell turtles, and a couple of other turtle species. There is also a big swamp off of the turnpike after the allentown exit.Mostly turtles there some snakes though. It's easier just to go to jersey. You just have to avoid the fuzz.I personally have never been hassled but a lot of other people have.

There are softshell's in PA? I know in the Maurice River in New Jersey there are softies but I didn't know they were in PA. What other kind of turts do you see at Tyler, I live in Jersey and its funny you prefer Jersey over PA. I guess i'm the opposite(maybe thats because I live in Jersey).
