Cresties verses Gargoyles

heffepm Mar 21, 2005 07:27 PM

I would like to get another little pet. I've been debating between a Gargoyle and a Crestie. I've looked at the care sheets and am familiar with the differences in their care, but I was wondering if there is a difference in their personalities. Is there one that doesn't mind being held more so than the other? Is one more active or outgoing than the other? I've seen many cresties, but I'd love to see more pictures of gargoyles if anyone out there has any.

Thanks, Patty

the babies of both species can be really flighty , and gargoyles will bite at points , ive only heard of a few cresteds doing so. ive found cresteds to be more secretive in my experience. Even though gargoyles seem to be more flighty , in my personal experience , i have never had a more calm gecko than my adult female gargoyle , shes better than my beardies! shes incredible. ill post picts soon. thanx

I was also wondering... I've seen quite a few cresties without tails. I'm assuming they don't grow back like an anole's would. Do gargoyles lose their tails as often?

Thanks again, Patty

juvenile gargoyles should never be kept together because they will eat each others tails in most cases.

even as adults, you should keep only a pair of females in most cases, and even that isn't 100% guaranteed, it all depends on how aggressive they are. SOMETIMES one male can be kept with 2 females or so, but a lot of times the females can become aggressive towards the male and it is best to seperate them.

right now i keep all of my juvies housed individually. and even when they are adults i probably will keep them seperate as well.

Important to note that gargoyle tails grow back but crested tails do not. That's why you see more tailless cresteds than gargoyles.
