Hi guys.

I’ve used our everyday newspaper as a substrate for my snakes for years. Now I think it would be better to offer is shredded, so snakes can burrow in it for more comfort. Since I read time to time that newspaper may not be so safe due to ink, the question is would most of you use shredded newspaper?

Thank you for all replies.

I have used shredded newspaper so snakes could burrow. It worked pretty well.

I don't know what type of ink they use to print newspapers in the UAE. You'll need to ask around over there.

If the ink is soy based it's perfectly fine. Look on the very bottom of the front page - it'll say something like "printed with soy based ink" on it.

Well a fairly commonly used substrate - carefresh - is nothing more than recycled shredded newspaper. As far as I know they don't do anything to it but maybe?
